Basically a stock is just a bet that the company will do good. You get money based on the company's success. Here's where the money comes in $_$:
If you buy a stock when a company is doing bad (which will reduce the price of every stock), then you can get money if you sell that stock when the company is doing good (which will increase the price of every stock)
